CAA Board Member
Matt Ownby resides in Novi, Michigan and is employed as an elementary school administrator in the Novi Community School District. He is the parent of two college kids, Isabelle and Jacob Ownby (who is a current marching member). Matt has arranged and composed for marching bands and winter drumlines across the country, and he judges events on a regular basis. He is a former member of The Cavaliers administration team in the area of tour management. Matt has performance and education degrees from Western Michigan, University of Nevada Las Vegas, and a Public Administration degree from University of Michigan.
Matt's marching career began in high school at a small high school with a Friday night football band. He attended a Yamaha clinic featuring The Cavaliers in Lansing Michigan in the summer of 1989, and was instantly obsessed with learning all he could about drum corps, and specifically The Cavaliers. While The Corps made a huge impression on him, earning a spot seemed improbable with very little background in the competitive marching arts. Nonetheless, he did earn that spot and performed with The Corps during the 1992 and 1993 seasons in the front ensemble winning DCI, Individuals, and Ensemble championships. He is excited to be a member of the CAA board and is looking forward to being a part of conversations that tie new and old together, as well as working to improve volunteerism among our alumni of Michigan/Ohio regional brothers.
