John Timmins, “Packy”, resides in Oswego, IL, with his wife, Heather, and kids Ellie and Dane.  He holds undergraduate degrees in music from Northern Illinois University, and a Master’s degree from the VanderCook College of Music, in Chicago.  Packy is currently in his 21st year teaching instrumental music at Crone Middle School in Naperville, IL and his 26th year of teaching total.  In addition to his middle school responsibilities, he also has taught the Neuqua Valley High School Marching Wildcats since 1997.  Mr. Timmins is proud to have had students recognize him as an Indian Prairie Most Influential Educator 11 times. In 2005, he was named a Chicagoland Outstanding Music Educator.

Packy joined the Cavaliers in 1985 marching in the baritone line, the first year of “The Planets”. In 1988, he somehow convinced the brass staff to let him play the baritone solo in the Firebird show.  In 1990, he became too much of a marching liability so they made him Drum Major.  The staff and members were so happy to get him off the field that they named him “1990 Cavalier of the Year”.  Packy taught on the brass staff in 1991, 1992, and 1993.
